🎤 That’s a wrap! The last episode of “Lost in Panama” drops today. It was a tough one to record… the gripping conclusion of what happened to Kris and Lisanne eight years ago on that hike.
🎧 I can’t thank you enough for coming along this 7 episode journey with us. For making this podcast top #10 on Apple. And more importantly for shedding light—not only on the women at the center of this story—but on the issue of missing girls in our region.
🙏🏽 Thank you to my team on the ground: Jeremy, Julien, Luis, Richard; @colinpthomson +everyone at @kastmedia for helping us tell this story.

📺 On @msnbc with @alivelshi talking about the alarming number of missing women and girls that we uncovered during our investigation in Panama 🇵🇦.
✊🏽1 out of 3 women in the region experience gender-based violence or killings… just for being women. This is called “Femicide”, a term we aren’t super familiar with in the United States, but that we should get to know, as it involves a whole web of corruption and impacts women of color particularly.
🎧 This was one of the findings, among many other bombshells, in our true crime series “Lost in Panama”. There are only 2 episodes left and you won’t believe what happens!
🙏🏽 Gracias Ali and the @msnbc team for the platform and giving me that space to #SayHerName.

So many of you are asking me about the pantsuit: it’s by Colombian designer @silviatcherassi, who is dressing me for the whole conference.
Today: we heard from the Director of Black Panther & Wakanda Forever: Ryan Coogler, with Keke Palmer and Marvel’s Lauren Ridloff. The team behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, and so many other gems.
I cannot thank Tiffany R. Warren enough for the privilege of hosting this platform. It is an honor and one of the most enriching experiences of my life. In awe of you, friend @diverstar ✊🏽

“Lost Girl”: How I found myself in the middle of a Panamanian true crime story.
My priorities shifted during this investigation. I reconnected to the struggles of everyday people and got back to boots on-the-ground reporting in places far from the headlines. Maybe I had stopped doing it because of the pandemic – there was certainly no possibility of doing this kind of story during quarantine – or maybe that was the lie I told myself while I was lost?
This case helped me deal with past trauma and regain my purpose. I felt uniquely prepared for it, speaking my native Spanish on assignment, while translating to English for our audience. I channeled my empathy as a Latina and used my fearlessness and physicality to get answers.
The investigation, which came out as the “Lost in Panama” true crime podcast series, is our team’s effort to uncover the truth. And my hope is that listeners also find a piece of themselves in the story of Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon.
Op-Ed for @msnbc @knowyourvalue @nbcnews.

🥾 Extremely grateful to my team who didn’t falter in embedding down there; and their attention to detail in making our discoveries and uncovering the truth.
